The «Deep Vermins» project trace and analyze the manufacturing process of an Apple iPhone 5S. Inside each device are no fewer than 52 elements, such as zinc, silver, lithium and many others. The aim of this work is to raise awareness of the origin and environmental impact of these high-tech jewels in our hands. The extraction of these metals involves specific and highly polluting methods, contributing to massive deforestation and considerable environmental damage. Each metal is mined in different regions of the globe, resulting in ecocides where nature can no longer survive or thrive. Using Stable Diffusion and Chat GPT, my ambition is to imagine new species that have developed new assets to thrive in these environments, in order to propose a utopian vision of the future of the environment in an Anthropocene world.
